Palo Alto Home Addition

This Palo Alto home addition and remodeling project added a 200 square feet and opened up an antiquated floor plan. The addition comprises mainly of a new master suite.

The floorplan was reorganized to create an open kitchen with an island facing a great room. To allow for more space inside the home, the fireplace and wall heaters were removed and the laundry area remained in the garage. A pull-down attic ladder was added to access the spacious attic. The walnut vanity and modern kitchen cabinets were designed and built in our award-winning custom cabinetry shop. They contain no-urea added formaldehyde.

To improve indoor air quality (IAQ), the walnut floors and Marvin windows are finished with Rubio Monocoat, an eco-friendly natural VOC-free oil finish. There is also an air cleaner and an HRV (heat recovery ventilation system). Energy efficiency is improved by insulating the attic with spray foam and locating the furnace equipment and ducts in this conditioned space.
